so much space

I did something fiscally irresponsible today. I spent at least an hour wandering around the store looking at models, playing with settings, getting plenty of slightly worried “can I help you, sir?” when I touched things I probably oughtn’t, and talking myself down from a purchase. I totally failed. After having built a new computer a few weeks ago, I bought a new monitor, and right now I’m running a dual monitor set-up.

It’s neat. A bit disorienting, but neat. I’m not used to my monitor being so bright, and I’m not used to having something glow on one periphery as I type or surf or watch.

It took me a couple of hours worth of fiddling to get all the right settings clicked, cajoled and kicked into line, and it won’t be perfect until I convince myself that I can spend the same amount of money again to get another 20″ widescreen LCD so they can be run at the native resolution. Right now I’m using screen space decadently. I’m typing this entry on the new monitor, and I have iTunes up on the other one. Earlier, I was watching the latest South Park and reading email at the same time. Truly, I am in the future now.

I do wish I could get the monitors to run at different resolutions, and I’d dearly love it if more games came with an easily accessible windowed mode. Those be minor quibbles, though. Here be awesomeness.
