Remembered Love
Sometimes I forget about bands I love, and the joy of rediscovery is nearly as great as initially figuring out a new musical crush, like when I recently re-found Regina Spektor’s Begin To Hope. The two singles are still as truly great as when they were on the radio, and I’ve discovered “Better,” “Hotel Song” and “Samson” from recent obsessive listens.
She isn’t my favorite most lost until found again artist though. That title belongs to The Sundays. I imagine they’re probably best known for their cover of Wild Horses, which for Buffy fans, was prominently played during the Prom episode*, and happens to be one of only two songs of theirs I have rated in iTunes.
That lack of rating is probably why I constantly forget how much I love them. Most of the time I rate things when a specific song stands out, but for me most of their work blends together into a beautiful, shimmery haze. I hate singling a song out because they all work so well together. That lack of singling out means that I don’t hear them very often at all on a Top Rated playlist, and the 22 songs I have by them get very lost in a library of 15,000.
It’s nice, too, to find them again and listen straight through the two albums of theirs I have (I really need to get Static & Silence) loving every moment of it, and being able to still enjoy the freshness of it. There’s a rare, glorious comfort in that.

*At episode end, whist the song played, I cried.
