On a winter’s night
Tonight I had a plan, a put down the book (or Angel DVD set), get out of the house, and enjoy Portland sort of plan. I was going to take the bus down to the Opposable Thumb, have some coffee, write a few back-logged book log posts, have some beer, and maybe find some other place in SE to have more beer.
The plan was a bust.
I got down to the Thumb to find it was closed, as was another coffee place on Belmont that I’d walked by a few times and looked nicely cozy. So I hopped on another bus, grabbed a bite to eat at an undisclosed location, finished a review, read a bit, and headed home. On the way back home, I contemplated a three things. First, heading to Anna Banana’s, or one of the bars in St John’s, and getting nicely drunk. Second, stopping off at Fred Meyer’s on the way and picking up beer and kitty litter*, heading home to watch (500) Days of Summer for the fifth time, and getting nicely drunk. Or third, doing the things listed as Second, except replacing the movie with the book I’m reading (review forthcoming. I need to finish the book first, and have two other books I need to note here before I get to this one).
While all of those things are appealing, none of them happened. I did stop off at Freddies, and I did pick up kitty litter. I also picked up some Pumpkin Spice soy milk, and some ice cream. I may or may not watch Summer or read the book. What I did, and will probably do some more, is play with Orange and the new laser pointer I got for us. Watching him chase after a little red dot is so much better than drinking while watching a sweetly mopey movie or reading a funny but resonantly sad book on a rainy January Friday night.
Thanks kitty. Oh, and you have fresh litter now. Go you!

* I wonder if beer + litter would be a WTF?! worthy purchase combo.
Also, I’m aware that in a more perfect world where I knew how to write this post would have been in second person. Alas, Walgreens.
