Green Tee Readings

This and the previous post came from writing an email to my brother, but this needs to be shared. I’m not often impressed by new turns of phrase I key out, and this may be the beer talking, but I think “Los Locos Parentes” might be the most wonderful thing I’ve thought. Ever.

You probably have to know the backstory of how I feel about some family members to truly appreciate the greatness, but the Spanish meanings, the “in loco parentis” phrasing and that fact that it’s a truly great band name all combine to make this, for me, better than when I said “like a Jesus to the cross” while riffing on the hilariously bad dialog in the first Spiderman movie.

(I shudder to think about what hits that post title could garner)

I know I’m a bit out of this game, but aren’t contractions supposed to reflect the way people actually speak in an informal yet grammatically correct way? If so, why does Firefox’s spell check just hate it when I use “there’ve” as a contraction for “there have” as in “there’ve been many grievous mistakes by the Bush administration these last 7 years.”

I admit that my fondness for we’ll’ve is really unbecoming, and that George Bernard Shaw would have my head if he saw how often I want to use it, so I won’t complain about that one.
